Emergency plumber in Baldock

Something leaking right now? Close the stopcock to cut the mains supply. It's often under the kitchen sink, but in newer houses it can be in a utility room, a garage or a downstairs cloakroom. If water is near sockets or a light, turn the power off at the fuse box. Then call 01462 510001.

A split pipe, water through a ceiling, a cylinder discharging water or a drain backing up into the house all count as emergencies, and they come first. Our phones are open 7am to 9pm on weekdays and 7am to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday. Send a photo or a short video on WhatsApp to 07719 056800 and we can often see what's needed before we arrive.

Emergency plumbing

Plumbers in Baldock for leaks, cylinders and drains

Leak detection

If your water meter keeps moving when every tap in the house is off, water is escaping somewhere between the meter and your taps. We pin the source down with pressure testing and specialist equipment before anything is lifted or cut out, then repair it for good.

Unvented and hot water cylinders

Unvented cylinders give mains pressure hot water, but they rely on an expansion vessel and safety valves to stay safe. When those start to fail you'll often notice water dripping from the small pipe nearby. We repair, service and replace unvented and traditional cylinders, and immersion heaters.

Blocked drains and drain repairs

A drain that blocks again and again usually has a reason: a build up of fat, wipes, tree roots or a cracked section. A camera survey shows which, so the repair goes in the right place. See our page on drain unblocking across Hertfordshire.

Taps, toilets and showers

Dripping or seized taps, cisterns that won't fill or won't stop, showers with poor flow or no heat. Small jobs, done properly.

Water softeners

Fitted on the incoming main, a softener protects everything downstream: cylinder, shower valves, taps and appliances.

Landlords and businesses in Baldock

We look after plumbing for rental homes, shops, offices, schools and food businesses in and around Baldock: repairs between tenancies, washroom and drainage work, and planned maintenance visits so small faults are caught before they turn into call outs.

We also install and repair underfloor heating.

Plumbing in and around Baldock

Baldock's water is hard, like the rest of this corner of Hertfordshire, and that is behind a lot of the cylinder and shower faults we see in the town. Scale coats immersion elements and settles in valves, so parts wear out sooner than they should.

Besides the town itself, we regularly work in the villages around it, including Clothall, Bygrave, Weston, Radwell and Ashwell.

“Called JLP to investigate a leak coming in through the kitchen ceiling which had been going on for more than a month, with previous plumbers failing to find the issue. Within 5hrs Jack had identified and fixed the leak. Reasonable rates and friendly service. Highly recommended.”

“Jack has done a number of jobs for me but the other day I had an emergency with water gushing out. Jack came round immediately. He identified the leak & got it fixed. He has been superb in all the work that he has done for me. He is polite, respectful & keeps you informed but above all he knows his stuff. He is excellent. I thoroughly recommend using him & his company. I can see that all the reviews here are very positive - well deserved.”

Baldock plumbing questions

Can you come out in an emergency in Baldock, and when are you open?
Yes. Emergencies go to the front of the queue during our opening hours, which are 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday. Call 01462 510001, tell us what's happening, and we'll give you the earliest time we can be with you.
Do you cover the villages around Baldock?
Yes. As well as Baldock itself we cover Clothall, Bygrave, Weston, Radwell, Ashwell and the other villages nearby, along with Letchworth Garden City, Hitchin, Stotfold and Royston.
Why is water dripping from the pipe next to my unvented cylinder?
That pipe is the discharge from the cylinder's safety valves. A steady drip usually means the expansion vessel has lost its charge or a valve isn't sealing, so pressure builds as the water heats and the valve lets some out. It needs checking soon. Leaving it can waste water and put strain on the cylinder.
Why is the water pressure low in my Baldock home?
Low pressure through the whole house is often a stopcock that isn't fully open, scale in the tap aerators or shower head, or a problem on the incoming supply. Check the stopcock is fully open and clean the aerators first. If it's still weak, call us, because a hidden leak on the supply pipe can cause it too, and we can trace it.
What should I check before hiring a plumber in Baldock?
Ask what qualifications and insurance they hold, read reviews from other customers, and make sure the work and the cost are agreed before anything starts. A plumber with a local base and a landline is also easier to reach if something needs looking at again. Our team is City & Guilds qualified, NICEIC and FMB approved, insured for £10M employers' and £5M public liability, and based next door in Letchworth Garden City.
What makes a drain keep blocking?
Most repeat blockages come from fat and wipes building up, roots finding their way into joints, or a cracked or sunken section of pipe that catches waste. Clearing it brings the flow back, and a camera survey shows whether there is damage that needs a repair to stop it happening again.
Why is water dripping under my kitchen sink?
It's usually a loose waste trap, a worn tap connector, or a washing machine or dishwasher hose. Dry everything, run the tap, and watch where the first drip forms. Hand tightening the trap often fixes it. If it's a pipe joint or a tap connector, turn off the small isolating valve on that pipe, or the stopcock, and call us.
