One room into three, in Hitchin
The brief was a single room that had to become three useful spaces. Splitting it that way left the bathroom compact, so we fitted a quadrant shower enclosure: its curved front tucks the shower into the corner and keeps a clear path through the room, where a square tray would have eaten into it. Handmade look tiles and brass crosshead taps keep a small room warm rather than clinical, and a traditional heated towel rail, a shaker vanity and a backlit mirror finish it.

Adding an en suite usually means finding space and getting waste pipes to fall the right way. A wet room needs the whole floor and the lower walls tanked, which means sealed with a waterproof membrane before tiling, because the shower drains across the open floor.

Handover. A full clean, a walk round with you and a 3 year workmanship guarantee. Payment is in stages: a deposit, a mid job stage payment and the balance at handover.

Hitchin's hard water and your new bathroom
Hitchin is supplied from the chalk, and its water is very hard. On a new bathroom that shows up as white marks on shower glass, dull chrome and grey grout lines within months. A water softener fitted at the same time as the bathroom stops most of it at source. If a softener isn't for you, we can suggest glass coatings and fittings that are easier to keep clear.
